New years trip to Velenje
- december 2007

This year we have decided that instead of classical new year party we organize a trip to Velenje - town in northern part of Slovenia. In the morning we have set out towards Velenje with two buses. First we came to deer farm in Vinska Gora. We were hungry and sandwiches of game salamis and some hot cooked wine and tee were more than welcome. In the mean time the owner of the farm fed the animals. Deers, fallow deers and chamoises approached to us quite close, so we could take some photos.

Cold and rather unpleasant weather dictated us not to be outside to long, therefore we moved on towards Museum of coalmine in Velenje. 180 m under surface we have seen how the coalminers worked in the past and also how the work in a mine looks today. A majority of the mine is still in operation, mostly for Thermo-power-station Sostanj, only a small part of an old mine is transformed to museum. The museum also received a Special reward of European museum fund 2001.

Later we went on to Velenje castle which is one of the best preserved castles in Slovenia. On many steps we climbed up to the castle, nearby we have also seen a plastic 94m high plastic ski jump. On the castle we have seen some of museum collections and also Cristmas cribs that are set on the castle every Cristmas - every year by other florist.
Among other we have seen the collection from time of TITO and we took a photo by the significant socialistic sign
"Honor and power to work!"

Cold was getting worse, so we hardly waited for dinner in Hren Restaurant, where we later on danced with live music all the way to the end, despite tiredness and a long day.
